Inspiration!

What inspires you? How do you think of ideas for a space? These are the questions I am always asked. I am inspired by so many things and people. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Truly the best inspiration I get comes from my clients. Decorator in a Box has the best clients! They are style savvy, fun, creative and inspired people. When I begin a project I always have them send me inspiration images. These images come from magazines, artwork or just a single chair. This is my favorite part of beginning a project. I love seeing what inspires them and then it inspires me. My job is to create the clients vision. They have the idea and I just need to help execute it. I get to pull all their ideas together and create balance so that vision makes sense. I have such a fun job!

I am also inspired by my favorite designers. My favorite designers are fearless and most importantly fun.

Jonathan Adler coined the style "Happy Chic". His designs are that and more while having a great sense of humor.

The hottest hotels in the country are the ones that Kelly Wearstler designed. She has created "Hollywood Regency" and beyond!

When I was a designer fresh out of college my mentor took me to meet Thomas Pheasant. He was then launching his new furniture line with Baker. I could not believe I was going to meet him. When we shook our hands I looked at him star struck. He told my mentor how much he loved the antique brooch pinned to her jacket. He then told us how he designed a mirror from an antique brooch. That mirror is the one you see below and is a famous design staple today. You never know what will inspire you.

Happy Mothers Day!

Behind every great man there stands a great women and behind every great person there stands a mother! Today is the day we honor mothers and motherhood and it's a day that should be honored everyday. They do more than we ever know. Their job description can not be typed on one page, but is a never ending novel. Thanks Mom for everything you do and have done. I feel these men said it best....

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my Mother".
- Abraham Lincoln

"My mother had a slender, small body, but a large heart - a heart so large that everybody's joys found welcome in it and hospitable accommodation".
- Mark Twain

(Instead of flowers that wilt away give Mom a painting like this one I found on Etsy.)

Cinco de Mayo in Style!

Today is Cinco de Mayo! Cinco de Mayo is an American celebration of the battle of Puebla. It is also a great way to throw a backyard bash with margarita's, chips and salsa. What a great way to break up your work week! Here is how you can throw together a festive celebration.

The three things you should think about are the table setting, ambiance and bright multi colors. Create your table setting by serving with fiesta ware. If you do not own a fiesta ware set (I sure do not) just bring in key pieces like a charger under a white plate, chip and salsa bowl or pitcher. Get a colorful multi stripe runner or napkins to add color. Add fresh or faux flowers as napkin rings. Be sure to have margarita glasses available. Finish the table off with a bright pop of yellow sunflowers.

Set the mood by adding strings of frosted light bulbs to glow and create ambiance. Place candles in mason jars for a charming look. Finish the theme with Mexican multi color banners.

All of these ideas are sure to bring lots of color and fun to your bash. If you do not have a backyard of course this can all be done indoors as well. Finalize the party with a pitcher of margarita's, warm batch of tacos and chips with salsa.

Cheers!

Burst of Color!

I stumbled upon this Burst of Color Bib Necklace at Esty. I just love it and think it would look great with just a white t and jeans! So adorable and a wonderful accent piece. I think this bib definitely makes the outfit!
