Acrylic is Clearly Cool

{above photo courtesy of lonnymag.com}

Bring in a modern twist to any style space with acrylic furniture. It can be an unexpected side table in a traditional home to dining chairs sitting at a white parson table. It makes a great coffee table on top of an ornate rug you want to showcase. Bring a touch of acrylic into your space it's clearly a wise choice. Here are some Decorator in a Box inspiring photos and acrylic favorites. Enjoy!

Chic Your Shelf

I have tired cabinets in my Kitchen that I put rubber shelf liners on. They slip and slide around and are just not working for me. I also have a dresser in my bedroom that I refinished and put fun knobs on, but the inside of the drawers are kind of blah and unfinished looking. I stumbled on the site Chic Shelf Paper and my wheels started spinning. I began thinking of all the shelves and drawers in my home that need chic paper. I thought the Kitchen could have the fun orange slice print or birds. My dresser could have a fun burst of floral each time you open the drawer. I can't wait to get to work lining my drawers and shelves...I know I can't believe I just said that either. Shelf paper is not just for your Mother or Grandma anymore, not to say they are not chic. After you check out some of the fun prints at chicshelfpaper.com you just may be saying the same thing.

Cozy Up with Plaid

This time of year I am always drawn to plaid. It just seems to give me that cozy warm feeling. I have always been a sucker for a great plaid scarf or jacket. Maybe it's my Minnesota roots that were flooded with pendleton blankets and fleece lined coats. Plaid has popped up in an upholstery line at Anthropologie that has inspired me to do some mix & match plaid reupholstering of my own. Artists and crafters are getting very creative with plaid at their Etsy shops. Here are the Anthro and Etsy Decorator in a Box plaid picks. Enjoy and stay warm!

Royalty Just a Scent Away

Never underestimate the power of a good candle or home fragrance. I just discovered Royal Apothic when my Mom began raving about the creator Sean who she met. Not only is Sean a great guy, but his candles and home fragrances are the best! So great they have been selected to be sold at Anthropologie among others. Sean created Royal Apothic after discovering an apothecary manual from the eighteenth century in a Notting Hill antique stall. The manual pages revealed the formulas to scents created for the great monarchies of Europe. With Sean's experience working in the beauty industry he was able to take the old formulas and make them new again. I don't know about you, but I would love a little royalty in my home. Especially, if that royalty is a candle or spritz away. Give your home an easy mood changer and treat yourself to Royal Apothic.

Bath and body products coming soon....yea!!

No need for gift wrap the package is perfect!

Not just for the home! I Love the vintage bottle style.

Wonderful roll on fragrances. You can combine them to create your signature scent.

Wow Painted Floors!

More and more these days I am seeing designs showing amazing painted floors. I use to think what a nightmare it would be to maintain. Now there are so many durable paints like Benjamin Moore deck paint and more, it has me rethinking my previous judgement on painted floors. There is also a growing trend of the theory if it's chipped or scratched it's OK, because let's face it life itself is chipped and scratched sometimes. People are getting creative by painting fun patterns like stripes or even checks. If you need an inexpensive update to your shabby wood floor don't rule out painting them, especially in older homes with lots of character. Just be fearless when you do it and the end result will be a totally transformed space. Here are a few of my favorite painted floors.

What a great way to take your home from summer to fall with these cozy woven pillows. They even have a few vintage Suzanni pillows priced as low as $34.95. Check out Sukan and give your place that warm antique touch. Here are a few Decorator in a Box favorites.

Hi Annie - I've been meaning to stop by FB and let everyone know how pleased I've been with my DIAB! I decided to try the Decorator in a Box for my living room & dining room only, but then when it was time to do my bedroom - I was not able to do it without you! I've had so much fun through out the process. It was impressive to see how you took my input (all via email’s) and then designed something beautiful that reflected my style and budget. So, I strongly recommend the DIAB to anyone-in fact, I don’t think I’ll ever decorate anything without the DIAB! Look for the before and after photos in the next coming weeks. 

Annie was an absolute pleasure to work with from beginning to end. She got it from the very start and was quick and through with her presentation for my space. It was like working with a close friend on creating a space that is uniquely you. Thanks again!

I appreciate the constant dialog that I received from Annie. I never had to wonder if she had received my order, was working on my room, or if I was clear enough with my request. I was treated like I was a VIP client and that she had no other work to do but me. It made me feel appreciated.

I love the concept of a flat-fee for a professional design. No pricey and time consuming back and forth with a decorator that is charging me by the hour and nudging me toward expensive custom pieces from furniture stores providing a decorator's commission but over-charging me. Annie's process is both cost and time efficient - and just down right fun! I just sent off the info she needs to know about my design project and she more than met my expectations. A creative and professional design, taking into account my style and what I wanted from the room, but with the instinct and flair of a decorator's eye. The pieces were selected from nice but affordable stores. Once the design was in my hand I was able to select the pieces that made sense for me at the time it made sense for my budget. I love that she gives options for each piece - but if I'm honest - I always go with "Annie's Favorite". What can I say? This girl has great style! I can (and have) whole-heartedly recommended Annie and her innovative approach to interior design with MyDiaB.com! You will not be disappointed"

Annie!

Thank you so much for the great bedding! I'm going to go with Ashen Bedding #1. I've already ordered the knit throw. And I got the ok from Jake on these pillows: http://pillowsandthrows.com/bl63958.html
I would have never found them without you!

You know, its funny--I didn't tell Jake I was doing this- I didn't think he would understand why it was so hard for me to get the bedding together. It's like putting together an outfit you both have to wear...everyday. The task seemed so daunting--I didn't even know where to begin, there are sooo many choices out there. When I opened the box, it was so easy. I said, ok, i like this color blanket the best. check. I like this pillow the best, check. And so on. You simplified it into a manageable project. I can't wait to move into our new house (2 weeks!) and get my bedding together. I'll send a pic when we're settled! Thank you so much!

Dress Your Shelves!

The main thing people struggle with while designing a space is accessory placement. How do you place that old photo of Grandma and Grandpa at age 18 or that lovely clay dish you found on that trip to Mexico? Arranging a bookcase or shelf can be tricky. It is really one of those things you just have to fuss with. Moving a framed photo one inch and placing it on a stack of books can make a world of difference. My advice is to find an inspiration photo of a bookcase or shelf you like and try and replicate it. You don't need to go purchase every item you see in the photo, but try to create a similar look with your own items. Here are some of my bookcase sources of inspiration. Enjoy!
